United States Assistance for Anti-Narcotics Program in Thailand


Article 11. The United States agreed to provide a sum of three million United States dollars ($3,670,000 or approximately 154 million baht) to Thailand to be used for the anti-narcotics program. The United States Ambassador to Thailand, the Thai Minister of Justice, and the Prime Minister of Thailand jointly executed the agreement on July 18, 2001. This sum is part of a United States anti-narcotics assistance program which has provided over $81 million since 1974. The program comprises opium-crop eradication, reduction of drug demand, the development of regional law enforcement networks, and technical support. Thailand is considered a key transit route for drug trafficking, particularly the illegal importation from Burma and Laos.
